February 26, 2007: Season ends for the Normans
The 2006-2007 season came to a close for the Normans last weekend at Marina High School.  Earning points at the tough
two-day CIF divisional tournament for the Normans were freshman John Rodgers (103 lbs.), who went 2-2, junior Brian Kim
(145 lbs.) who went 3-2 losing only to the number one and number three seeds, junior Jake Marchiafava (160 lbs.) who was 1-
2 in the tourney, and junior Sae Bin Park (189 lbs.) who went 1-2. For complete tournament results visit the tourney, and

February 8, 2007: Cage wins Pioneer League Finals Tournament, five Norman wrestlers place and qualify for CIF
Sophomore Weston Cage (285 lbs.) won the gold medal yesterday at Santa Monica High School, placing first at the Pioneer
League Finals Tournament, the first qualifying step towards heading to the state championship tournament in Bakersfield in
March. Seeded first, Cage pinned his two opponents in the first period. Other Normans also qualifying for the CIF Coastal
Division Tournament were freshman John Rodgers (103 lbs.), and juniors Brian Kim (145 lbs.), Jake Marchiafava (160 lbs.),
and Sae Bin Park (189 lbs.) who all placed third. In addition, the Normans have five alternates ready to go in freshmen Justin
Brezhnev (125 lbs.) and Adam Cohen (140 lbs.), sophomores George Abraham (130 lbs.) and Tal Dahan (135 lbs.), and
junior Mike Ghermezi (152 lbs.). All 10 wrestlers head to Marina High School in Huntington Beach for the two-day divisional
tournament on Feb. 16 & 17. The top five place winners there will advance to the CIF Southern Section Masters Tournament.

February 4, 2007: Cage wins North Torrance Tournament of Future Champions
Team captain, sophomore Weston Cage (285 lbs.), won the gold medal at the North Torrance Frosh/Soph Tournament of
Future Champions yesterday, pinning both opponents. Freshman standout Klar Kuo (215 lbs.) also had a good showing
losing his finals match in double overtime to place second. Placing fourth for the Normans was sophomore Tal Dahan (135
lbs.). The Normans will next compete in
the Pioneer League Finals Tournament to wrap up their season at Santa Monica with
North Torrance, Santa Monica, South Torrance, and Torrance high schools. The top three place winners will move on to the CIF
Southern Section preliminary tournament at Marina H.S. on Feb. 16-17.

February 2, 2007: Hills drops last dual meet to rival Santa Monica
The Normans lost their last dual meet of the season at home to league rival Santa Monica by a score of 54-27. While Beverly
Hills wrestled well, it was not enough to overcome Santa Monica. Picking up pins (worth six points each) for the Normans were
sophomore George Abraham (130 lbs.), freshman Klar Kuo (215 lbs.), and team captain sophomore Weston Cage (285 lbs.).
Junior Sae Bin Park (189 lbs.) won his match by a close 8-7 decision, picking up three points for his team. The freshmen and
sophomore wrestlers will compete on Saturday at the North Torrance Frosh/Soph Tournament and on Wednesday, Feb. 7,
the team heads to the Pioneer League Finals Tournament to wrap up their season at Santa Monica with North Torrance,
Santa Monica, South Torrance, and Torrance high schools. The team's final dual-meet record is 7-10.

January 31, 2007: Hills falls to league opponent South Torrance
Beverly Hills had a poor showing at their league dual meet at South Torrance High School on Monday, Jan. 29. Despite
earning 24 points through forfeits at four weight classes, the final score ended in South's favor: 51-30. Getting a wins for the
Normans were Mike Shlomof (wrestling up a weight at 119 lbs.) and Mike Ghermezi (152 lbs.). All other Normans got pinned
by their opponents, except for Tal Dahan (135 lbs.) who lost a by a close, high-scoring decision 19-17. On the JV side, Matt
Flagel (171 lbs.) picked up another win with a 7-2 decision over his opponent. Hills will wrestle their last league opponent,
Santa Monica, at home on Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Beverly Hills High School swim gym at 3 p.m.




















January 28, 2007: Hills has good showing at Chaminade Tourney
The Normans place four individual wrestlers and finished ninth out of 16 teams at the Chaminade Tourney yesterday, despite
missing five weight classes.  John Rodgers (103 lbs.) wrestled his way to the finals and then lost to end up with the silver
medal. Weston Cage (285 lbs.) also wrestled to a silver medal, losing only to his second opponent all year.  At 160 lbs. Jake
Marchiafava captured the gold medal after breezing through all of his opponents. His performance on the day earned him the
tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler award for the upper weight classes and improved his season record to 22-4. Other
Norman wrestlers performed well also. Freshman standout Justin Brezhnev (125 lbs.) finished in third place, George Abraham
(130 lbs.) went 2-2 on the day and first-year wrestler Mike Shlomof (112 lbs.) earned his first win for the season, pinning his
opponent in 10 seconds. The Normans face league opponent South Torrance on Monday, Jan. 29, at South Torrance.

January 25, 2007: Despite great effort, Hills loses to North
The Beverly Hills wrestling team's record went to 7-9 today as they lost their league dual meet against North Torrance by a
score of 66-10.  The Normans wrestled strong in each and every match, but failed to come away with many wins.  John
Rodgers (103 lbs.) started things off strong with a major decision over his North opponent, putting Beverly Hills up 4-0. The
Normans' next win came from George Abraham at 132 lbs. His pin added six points to give Hills their 10 cumulative team
points. Other match notes: Wrestling up a weight class, Jake Marchiafava lost by decision 8-1; Tal Dahan (135 lbs.) lost by a
major decision in a 27-19 high-scoring shoot out; and Weston Cage (287 lbs.), after leading, got pinned after getting caught
on his back. On the JV side, two matches were wrestled. The Normans' Dan Beroukhim (125 lbs.) lost by a fall in the second
period, and Matt Flagel (171 lbs.) won by a fall in the third period.




















January 19, 2007: Hills to face North Torrance next
The 7−8 Normans will travel to North High in Torrance on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, to take on the league powerhouse. The
dual meet begins at 3 p.m., and is the second league competition for Beverly Hills this season.

January 15, 2007: Hills falls to Torrance
Beverly Hills lost its first league dual meet of the season to Torrance High School last Thursday at home. The final score was
47-30. Victories for the Normans included pins from George Abraham (130 lbs.), Eddie Niknam (152 lbs.), Jake Marchiafava
(160 lbs.) and Weston Cage (285 lbs.). The Normans' other six points came from a forfeit at 103 lbs. for John Rodgers.

January 10, 2007: Hills to host league rival Torrance tomorrow
The Normans will play host to league rival Torrance this Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in the wrestling facility at Beverly Hills High
School. This should be a good match up and is the first league match for Hills this season.

December 26, 2006: South Torrance dual meet rescheduled
The league dual meet initially scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007, at South Torrance High School has been rescheduled
for Monday, Jan. 29, 2007.  This competition will still take place at South Torrance H.S.

December 11, 2006: Freshmen finish strong at Peninsula Frosh tourney
The freshmen class of the Beverly Hills wrestling squad did remarkably well this past Saturday at the Peninsula Frosh
Tourney, placing five wrestlers in the top three of their respective weight class.  At 103 lbs. John Rodgers captured first place
with a record of 3-0 with three pins.  Justin Brezhnev also captured first place and had three pins in his 125 lb. weight class.  
Rounding out the first-place finishers for the Normans was Klar Kuo at 215 lbs., winning a nail-biter in overtime of his finals
match.  Placing second at 140 lbs. was Adam Cohen and finishing in third place at 152 lbs. was David Achvan.  Dan Berman
(160 lbs.) and Matt Flagel (171 lbs.) both finished fourth.

December 4, 2006: Normans fair well with tough competition at West Torrance Duals
Wrestling against some very tough competition this past weekend at the West Torrance Duals, the Grapplin' Normans faired
well, going 4-5 and finishing mid pack amongst the nine teams that made it out.  Captains Weston Cage (285 lbs.) and Jake
Marchiafava (160 lbs.) and sophomore Tal Dahan (135 lbs.) all wrestled to second-place finishes.  Dahan ended the two-day
tourney with a 7-2 record, while Cage and Marchiafava each compiled 8-1 records.  Senior Benji Rosen, wrestling up a weight
class at 171 lbs., captured third place, and freshman John Rodgers (103 lbs.) finished in fourth place.  The Normans are now
7-7 on the season as a team.

    THIRD ANNUAL WEST TORRANCE 10-WAY DUAL-MEET TOURNAMENT RESULTS FOR NORMANS:
    West Torrance defeated Beverly Hills 48-24
    Canyon defeated Beverly Hills 54-30
    Torrance defeated Beverly Hills 53-30
    Beverly Hills defeated N.T. Saxons (JV) 45-36
    North Torrance defeated Beverly Hills 81-0
    Beverly Hills defeated JV All Stars 48-30
    Beverly Hills defeated Santa Monica 42-30
    Redondo defeated Beverly Hills 30-30 (lost by criteria)
    Beverly Hills defeated Granada Hills 48-30

November 28, 2006: Hills to compete in West Torrance 10-Way Duals this weekend
Beverly Hills will compete this Friday and Saturday (Dec. 1-2) at West Torrance High School at the West Torrance 10-Way
Varsity Duals.  Featuring several ranked teams, this competition should show what mettle the Grapplin' Normans are made
of.  Check back on Sunday for results.

November 26, 2006: Normans go 3-2 at Chaminade Duals, placing fourth among 11 teams
Beverly Hills kicked off their season with a solid fourth-place finish in the Chaminade High School duals yesterday.  The
tournament featured 11 teams and the top three finishers were Calabasas, Chaminade and Harvard-Westlake.  

Several Normans took home individual honors.  At 5-0 on the day with four pins, captain Jake Marchiafava finished first in the 171
lb. weight class.  Fellow captain Weston Cage also finished first at 5-0 with three pins at 285 lbs.  Finishing second for the Normans
were John Rodgers (103 lbs.) at 4-1 with one pin; Justin Brezhnev (125 lbs.) at 4-1 with one pin; and George Abraham (130 lbs.)
at 4-1 with one pin.  Third-place finishers for the Normans were Tal Dahan (135 lbs.) at 4-1, and Klar Kuo (215 lbs.) at 3-2 with
one pin.

    CHAMINADE DUAL-MEET TOURNAMENT RESULTS FOR NORMANS:
    Harvard-Westlake defeated Beverly Hills 50-27
    Calabasas defeated Beverly Hills 54-39
    Beverly Hills defeated Sylmar 42-39
    Beverly Hills defeated Santa Barbara 70-24
    Beverly Hills defeated Salesian 66-24
