Dec. 15, 2007: Two Normans place in Chaminade JV Duals
The Beverly Hills JV wrestling squad placed two of their nine wrestlers at the Chaminade JV Dual Meet Tournament in West Hills on
Saturday, Dec. 15. Junior Jason Naziri (130 lbs.) won the gold medal in his weight class and had three pins on the day. Sophomore
Romeo Soofiani (285 lbs.) earned a silver medal, finishing with a 3-1 record on the day.
Dec. 12, 2007: Normans drop dual meet to Cerritos, but beat Redondo Union
The Beverly Hills varsity wrestling team lost a dual meet to visiting Cerritos High School by a score of 51-33, but came back to beat
Redondo Union High School 52-36 in their second dual meet of the evening in the school's Swim Gym. Junior captain Weston Cage
(HWT) went 2-0, pinning both his opponents in the first period. Cage remains undefeated with a record of 7-0 with five pins.
Sophomore Klar Kuo (215 lbs.) also was 2-0 on the evening, pinning both of his opponents. The JV squad ended up beating the
Cerritos JV squad by a score of 66-51, but lost to Redondo's JV 57-42. Below are the varsity results. The Normans, now 5-4 on the
season, next take on Salesian High School in a dual meet at home in the wrestling room on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 3:30 p.m.
Dec. 8, 2007: Three Normans place in Peninsula Frosh Tournament
Three freshmen wrestled to third-place finishes at the Peninsula Frosh Tournament today. Kevin Youssian (119 lbs.), Josh Rezvani
(140 lbs.) and Matt Yashar (160 lbs.), all lost tough matches in the championship bracket, but fought back hard in the consolation
rounds to place third in their respective weight classes. Youssian and Yashar went 3-1 on the day and Rezvani was 2-1. Matt
Grubman (112 lbs.) and Armand Farrokh (171 lbs.) both finished the day with 1-2 records, but did not place.
Dec. 6, 2007: Normans earn win at home over South Pasadena
The Beverly Hills varsity wrestling team earned a win over visiting South Pasadena by score of 42-30 at home. Junior captain
Weston Cage (HWT) earned the quickest pin with a 17-second fall time over his opponent. Also earning pins were fellow juniors
Calvin Berman (119 lbs.) and George Abraham (135 lbs.). The JV squad won by a score of 72-12, with pins earned by junior
Jason Naziri (130 lbs.) and freshman Matt Yashar (160 lbs.). Below are the varsity results. The Normans next take on Redondo
Union and Cerritos in a tri-meet at home in the Swim Gym on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 3:30 p.m.
Dec. 1, 2007: Despite wrestling well, Normans only place one at tough Newbury Park Invitational
The Beverly Hills varsity wrestling team sent 10 wrestlers to the 28-team Newbury Park Invitational. On the day, junior George
Abraham (140 lbs.) had the best showing for the Normans with a 3-1 record. Losing his first-round match in a tough last-second
decision, Abraham was sent to the consolation bracket to wrestle back for seventh place. He won his next three matches in strong
fashion and pinned the same opponent to whom he lost in the first round in 39 seconds to settle the score. Sophomore Mikey
Shlomof (130 lbs.) was 1-2 on the day, losing a tough-fought match to the number-one seed. Junior Tal Dahan (135 lbs.) also lost
to a top-seeded wrestler and went 1-2 on the day as well. Senior captain Brian Kim (145 lbs.) was also 1-2 on the day. The
Normans were without several of their starters including Jimmy Shlomof (103 lbs.), Bagus Rahadian (125 lbs.), Justin Brezhnev (135
lbs.), Jake Marchiafava (152 lbs.), Matt Flagel (171 lbs.), Klar Kuo (215 lbs.), and captain Weston Cage (HWT). The Normans next
face South Pasadena at home in a dual meet on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at 3:30 p.m. in the wrestling room.
Nov. 29, 2007: Normans fall to West Torrance in non-league dual meet
The Beverly Hills varsity wrestling team lost to visiting West Torrance by a score of 61-12. Starting off strong for the Normans was
senior Jake Marchiafava (152 lbs.) who improved his season record to 5-1 with a pin. From there, things went downhill for the
Normans as they dropped their next 10 matches, mostly by pins, to their West Torrance opponents. Junior captain Tal Dahan then
picked up the next six points for the team by pinning his opponent at 135 lbs. The team was without its heavyweight captain
Weston Cage who was sick.
The JV squad also wrestled with the outcome 50–21 in favor of West Torrance. The Normans varsity squad will travel to the
Newbury Park Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007. The next home match is on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 against
South Pasadena in a non-league dual meet.
Nov. 25, 2007: Normans go 3-2 at Chaminade Duals, JV places second as team
The Beverly Hills varsity and JV wrestling squads both had impressive showings at their first event of the 2007–2008 season. The
varsity squad, led by sophomore Mikey Shlomof (130 lbs.) and junior Weston Cage (285 lbs.) who both placed first with five
victories each in their respective weight classes, dropped their first two dual meets to Calabassas and Westlake. They rebounded
by defeating Chatsworth, Sylmar, and hosts Chaminade. Others turning in strong performances for the Normans were junior
George Abraham (third place, 140 lbs.), and seniors Brian Kim (second place, 145 lbs.) and Jake Marchiafava (third place, 152
lbs.). On the JV side, sophomore Matt Flagel (171 lbs.) placed first with five victories (each by pin) and was also voted the
tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler (upper weights) for JV. Also placing first for JV were freshman Kevin Youssian (119
lbs.), freshman Alex Gabbay (135 lbs.) who had five wins and three pins, and junior Tal Dahan (140 lbs.). Dahan also went
undefeated with five victories. Placing second for the JV squad were juniors Jason Naziri (130 lbs.) and Dan Molayem (152 lbs.),
and sophomores Gabe Benji (215 lbs.) and Romeo Soofiani (285 lbs.). The JV squad took home the second-place team trophy
with a 3-2 record.
